William Mauser, Randy Cox, John Cowlbeck- and Nigerian Art from personal collection of Mike and Cindy Gresham.
While predominantly an artist who has focused on the human figure, this new exhibit features a wide selection of Paulina‘s bold outdoor paintings of the built and natural environment. :
“Painting outside frees me from the photo reference and has inspired me to create a new body of work based on direct observation.
This body of work was done almost entirely outside sometimes in one 2-3 hour period and sometimes in week long sessions. My focus, while working on the paintings were color, light, and atmosphere.”
BIO:
Paulina Swietliczko was born in Warsaw, Poland and grew up in nearby Milanowek, known for its bohemian history and Polish underground resistance in WW2. For ten years, she commuted to two art schools from her hometown to Warsaw. In 2003, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, in the Painting department.
In 2005, Swietliczko moved to California, where she had her first successes as an artist. In 2006, she was awarded to be an artist in residence at the Fresno Art Museum. Shortly after, she started teaching at a community college and became a member of the co-op Fig Tree Art Gallery.
IN 2012, Paulina moved with her husband and their young children to Roanoke, Virginia, where she currently works as an artist, paints in her downtown studio, or outside the studio painting landscape, teaches private art lessons, and participates in art shows and events.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“About two years ago, I purchased a French easel and started painting outside. First, I would paint in my backyard, but after a while I gained confidence to go farther and paint in the neighborhood, on the sidewalk, in the parks and wherever I saw an interesting subject to paint. Painting outside frees me from the photo reference and has inspired me to create a new body of work based on direct observation.
This body of work was done almost entirely outside sometimes in one 2-3 hour period and sometimes in week long sessions. My focus, while working on the paintings were color, light, and atmosphere.”
